Vets, dog parks, shelters and pet-friendly spots in West Chester Township, Ohio, checked by the NatiPets team.
West Chester Township is Butler County's biggest community, about 18 miles north of downtown Cincinnati along I-75, and with more than 65,000 residents it has the depth of pet services you would expect from a small city: a 24/7 MedVet emergency hospital, a Veterinary Emergency Group hospital, an AcutePet urgent care clinic, three general practices, a pet resort by the Cincinnati-Dayton Road exit and a dedicated training facility on Liberty Way.
For dogs, the draw is Voice of America MetroPark, 435 acres with a stocked lake and nine miles of paved and natural trails. Wiggly Field, inside the MetroPark, is the township's only designated off-leash dog park, fenced with separate large and small dog areas. Everywhere else in township parks, including the 150-acre Beckett Park, dogs stay leashed.
Dog licensing runs through the Butler County Auditor and the dog warden is part of the Butler County Sheriff's office. The county shelter that serves West Chester is Animal Friends Humane Society in Hamilton, a short drive west on Princeton Road.
Call ahead for hours and whether a practice is taking new patients. Urgent and emergency care is marked.
